Sedation Dentistry Makes You Feel Calmer and More Relaxed
Sedation dentistry works by taking a pill before your dental procedure. The sedative ensures you are relaxed throughout the process. Serenity Dental will welcome you on your day of operation with dim lights and relaxing music. After taking the pill, you will be given a warm, thick blanket and placed under monitoring to observe your vital signs. Dr. Mangat will take it from there to provide the treatment you need for your dental health. After you are finished, you are now ready to heal and enjoy the results.

What are the benefits of Oral Sedation?
Oral sedation has many great advantages over other sedation methods. The benefits include the following:
- Easy to administrate: It’s the easiest sedation technique to administer. All you have to do is consume a pill in the powdered form.
- Non-invasive: Oral sedation is non-invasive, making it the perfect option for anyone with a fear of needles.
- You’re conscious: Although oral sedatives make you feel comfortable and relaxed, you do not lose consciousness—unless you fall asleep, of course!
- Amnesia: You won’t lose consciousness. Our patients often compliment us on how they had little to no memory of the procedure. This is especially beneficial for anyone with severe dental anxiety.
- Safety: All oral sedatives are very safe to use. Side effects are also less common.
Do I have to follow special precautions before and after the sedation dental visit?
Yes, we will go over the pre-procedural instructions during your pre-sedation consultation visit. You will need to arrange for a responsible and healthy adult companion who will be your designated driver and take care of you until the effects of sedatives wear off. We recommend your companion to be with you for the next 24 hours.
How long will I be sedated for?
You will be sedated for a duration of four to six hours. However, in some cases, the effects may last up to 24 hours.
What to Expect During Oral Sedation
Before the Procedure
We bring you to the dental office an hour before your dental procedure. Once you arrive at the office, we take the reading of your vitals to monitor your blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen level to ensure they remain in the normal range throughout your appointment. You are then given the sedative pill in a powdered form to consume. We offer blankets, dim the lights, and wait for you to relax for about 45 minutes to an hour.
During the Procedure
The sedation creates positive effects of drowsiness and relaxation. You start feeling free from worry, stress, and anxiety as the sedative agent takes its effect. Your limbs may feel heavy and relaxed, and they may tingling sensation in your extremities slightly. Throughout the visit, you have total control over the situation as you remain conscious but in a deeply relaxed state of mind. You are able to communicate with the dental team and express yourself throughout the appointment. You can go through any dental procedure comfortably once the sedative takes its effect. We monitor your vitals throughout the procedure.

You should avoid working or participating in intense physical activity, operating any machinery, and making any important decisions. until 24 hours.
